On September 22, 2026, the second all-candidates meeting was held at the Maple Bay fire hall. Thank you to the Maple Bay Community Association for hosting this meeting, and to the candidates for attending and giving voters an opportunity to get to know them better.

Two important questions were asked by the audience, and referred to the mayoral candidates: one on wildfires and the other on the old hospital. The video clip below allows viewers to go beyond the opening statements of the candidates and see how they tackle real life problems. Think about how Rob Douglas and Chris Wilkinson distinguish themselves.

The role of mayor demands in-depth knowledge of our community’s issues and needs, along with sound judgment to get us to the best outcome. And sometimes a decision needs to be made on an emergency basis.

In our view, Rob Douglas possesses the leadership, integrity, and qualities to guide us through a challenging and complex time.

Our Future

Economic development remains important, but it must be sustainable.

New industries should create lasting local jobs without compromising water security, increasing pressure on our ecosystems, or placing additional costs on residents.

Strong communities are built on trust. That trust comes from elected officials who communicate openly, explain their decisions, and genuinely involve residents in shaping the future

of their community.

Effective local government respects long-term plans, values professional expertise, and welcomes public participation throughout the decision-making process.

When decisions are transparent and grounded in evidence, people have confidence

that the community's interests come first.

Strong leadership means looking beyond the next development proposal and planning for the next generation. The decisions we make today will determine whether the Cowichan Valley remains a resilient, thriving community in the decades to come.
